If you are looking for a perfectly curated, no grammatical errors kind of blog – you have NOT found it! Am I a wordsmith? Nope. Am I good at spelling? Nope. (Thank you spellcheck and my husband) But I think I have a bunch of great information stored in this big ol' head of mine and like to share it with you
My name is Jaclyn Crosby. I’m a content creator on Instagram, a full-time mama & wife, and a marketing specialist for a new home construction company – yep, I’m always busy!
A little over 5 years ago my husband Cory and I bought our farmhouse. Is it really a farmhouse? No. We don’t have chicken or goats and we only live on a little over an acre and not on a huge piece of property. But what our house does have is low ceilings, a full front porch, and the charm of an old farmhouse; so we affectionately named it J&C Farmhouse.
Not long after we moved in, we started tackling projects. Like big ones – a kitchen reno, adding a pool/deck, screen porch addition, building a She Shed and a backyard bar…. The list goes on! Lol And along the way I found that I LOVED doing it! My husband built me a she shed and I turned it into a wood shop and started creating anything I could. From wooden stove top covers to floating shelves to cute yard décor – I was building it all.
And then the worst thing ever happened…. my back, that was already bad enough completely went out on me. I could barely pick up a piece of wood much less head to Home Depot and grab an entire load of lumber! So, I stopped. I had to. My back couldn’t take it anymore. I thought I had found a new love, a new passion working with wood, and then it was gone because I couldn’t physically do it anymore.
And for anyone that does know me, you know I don’t sit down for long and I like doing things myself, but my back was like ‘screw you Jaclyn I no longer want to cooperate’! To make this long story a little shorter we can fast forward to a few years of chiro appointments and MULTIPLE ortho appt’s until I found a surgeon that would work on me! In November of 2020, I finally had lumbar fusion surgery- so I’m sorta like the bionic woman now! Fast forward again thorough an AWFUL recovery – back surgery is no joke- and I felt good enough to start tackling projects again.
The author Dr. Steve Maraboli once said, "There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful than a woman being unapologetically herself; comfortable in her perfect imperfection. To me, that is the true essence of beauty."
My BFF is always joking that every time she comes to my house I've changed something new. I love to have projects to work on, I don't mind change, and my tastes change over the years, so why not let my home be an ever-changing canvas?
But you want to hear a secret? I am, without a doubt, my biggest critic. I always have high expectations for myself before every project, but I tend to allow self-doubt creep in and I get overwhelmed. But you know what? That never stops me from accomplishing every one of my clients' jobs 100%. (I don't always finish my own DIY projects but that's totally okay too! Welcome to the ‘Almost Done Club’ The club where we're almost done but never quite there.😂)
I absolutely love chatting about everything DIY and home improvement, so come say hi to me on Instagram and Facebook or leave a comment below.
Remember... Don't Be Afraid of a Little DIY: I believe that you can turn your house into a beautiful home, all you need to do is get your hands dirty one project at a time.
