Transformation Tuesday: Half Bath Renovation

Updated: Jan 24, 2023

Are you tired of your outdated and lackluster half bathroom? Look no further! I recently took on the task of transforming our own half bathroom and I am excited to share my tips and tricks to help you turn your own space into a stylish and functional oasis.

Recently, I transform our own half bathroom after a water leak caused us to rip out the floors. That was not a fun discovery and I will be completely honest, I thought I was in WAYYY over my head! lol I decided to take the opportunity to redo the entire room, and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Here's a quick rundown of what I did to give our half bathroom a complete makeover

  1. New sink and pedestal: I replaced the old sink and vanity and painted the faucet. Yep, you heard me right!

  2. New mirror: I replaced the old, tired mirror with a new one that was both larger and more stylish. This made a huge difference in the overall look and feel of the room.

  3. New tile: I decided to go with a more ornate tile on the floor. I found it at Lowe's and actually saw it on one of my fav #HGTV shows! The new tile not only looked great, but it was also easy to clean and maintain.

  4. New paint: I painted the walls a soft, neutral color that helped to make the space feel larger and more inviting.

  5. Custom wainscoting: To add some character and depth to the room, I decided to install custom wainscoting. This was a bit of a challenge, but it was definitely worth it in the end.

Materials and Tools

When it comes to materials and tools, I was able to find everything I needed at a few different stores. For the tile, I went to Lowes and picked out a beautiful textured floor tile that I loved. I also picked up a tile cutter from, which made it easy to cut the tile to the right size. To create the look of wainscot I used 1x2 furring strips and trim. To finish off the look, I found the base and sink at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. This not only helped us save money, but it also supported a great cause.

When it comes to tools, I used a few basic tools that most homeowners should have on hand. These include a tile cutter, a level, a saw, a hammer, and a drill. I also used a jigsaw to cut the wainscot to the right size. With these tools and materials, I was able to transform our half bathroom into a beautiful and functional space that I'm proud of.

This is the tile cutter I purchased from Lowes.... for simple home projects it is PERFECT! https://www.lowes.com/pd/SKIL-7-in-4-2-Amp-Wet-Tabletop-Tile-Saw/5005413927

The Finishing Touches

To complete the look of our half bathroom, I also added some décor to the space. To add a touch of elegance and warmth, I decided to go with the Magnolia line from Target for the mirror and wash your hands sign. The remaining décor I purchased from At Home. Anyone else just as obsessed with At Home as I am?!?! The Magnolia line at Target and At Home store has a lot of options that are rustic and farmhouse inspired, which was perfect for the aesthetic I was going for in our half bathroom.

With the addition of the décor items, I was able to add the final touches to our half bathroom and make it a space that I truly love.

What do you think? Would you make the same style choices? If not, what would you have done differently?
